“For to us a child is born, a son will be given to us, and the government will rest on His shoulder.

And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace

His government and its peace will never end.

He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity.”

Isaiah 8:5-6 (NLT)

There is no greater joy than the joy of knowing Jesus. The greatest gift ever given to mankind by the Father is the person of Jesus Christ. He is Shalom!

The Shalom of God means wholeness with nothing missing and nothing broken.

You may be thinking, “But I have a lot of missing and a lot broken in my life right now.” The truth is, we truly are broken without Jesus, but He is calling us to come to Him because He is the only one who can fix it all. Peace does not mean the absence of trouble or suffering; it is the Presence of Jesus that makes the difference and shifts our perspective.

Jesus Himself exemplified this peaceful state right before he had to face His own death on the cross for our sins. Aren’t you glad he paid the price for us? He couldn’t have done it without His embrace of the Shalom of God, which means what, “eyes on the Father.” As confirmed in Isaiah 26:3, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you.”

So, as you spend time with loved ones during this season, when we remember the death, burial, and resurrection of the Savior of the world, choose to receive the Prince of Peace Himself and stay in His Presence. Experience the power of the cross by accepting His Shalom and holding onto it tightly.

Personal Reflection: True peace comes from keeping your thoughts fixed on God. Any thought that disrupts your peace hinders you from "settling down inside," you must choose to surrender them to Him. For many, this requires intentionally capturing every thought that enters your mind, including the images that accompany them. Any thought or image associated with a negative emotion is an invitation from God, a conversation with Him to surrender it; if you don’t, it will steal your peace.

Ask the Father, “What lies have I believed about you regarding these thoughts?"

Ask Him: What is your Truth? (Write down the truth, and make an exchange to choose to believe the Truth he shows you and renounce the lies)

Prayer:

Father, reveal to me the thoughts that are stealing my peace right now, and show me how to release them to you. In Jesus’ Name!

With love and purpose,

Grace Abbey
